Get ready to see the beauty and the filth of India in the award-winning film Slumdog Millionaire.

Slumdog Millionaire is directed by Danny Boyle who earlier made movies like 28 Days Later and Trainspotting.

The film has been made by a British director but the cast is largely Indian or of Indian origin.

The leading lady of the film is Freida Pinto. This is her first film.

Slumdog... features a number of established Bollywood actors including Irrfan (this picture, right) and Anil Kapoor who plays the host of the gameshow based on Who Wants to be a Millionaire.

Dev Patel is based in London and has previously done TV shows and commercials, this is his first film.

The film has three major characters, Jamal (Patel), Latika (Pinto), and Saleem. Each character is played by three different actors.

Freida Pinto was honoured at the Palm Springs Film Festival earlier this month for her role in the film.

Some critics have accused the film of cashing in on India's poverty by projecting it in the West to win awards.

Co-director of the film, Loveleen Tandon has rubbished critics who have derided the film for catering to the westerner's image of India. She says it depicts a specific subject and it is well done.

Slumdog Millionaire won four Golden Globe awards including Best Picture Drama.

Danny Boyle won the Best Director Motion Picture Golden Globe.

A R Rahman won the Golden Globe for Best Original Score for this film.

Simon Beaufoy has won the Best Screenplay award for the film.

The four awards have made it a favourite in the running for the prestigious Oscars to be held next month.
