End of an era: As Ekta Kapoor's magnum opus Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii came to an end this Vijaydashmi, here's a look at the years that have passed, and the people that have come and gone.

Woman on top: Creator Ekta Kapoor hasn't had the best track record with her lead actresses, what with Smriti 'Tulsi' Irani and Prachi Desai (Kasamh Se) giving her the ditch for greener pastures, but Saakshi Tanwar, the Parvati of Kahaani, stayed put through eight years of the show.

And it begins: Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii, started in October 2000; it was Ekta Kapoor's second major venture after the immensely popular Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. Both shows started in 2000.

The show: The story of Kahanii... is set in the Aggarwal family, and revolves primarily around Parvati (Tanwar), the eldest daughter-in-law.

The other: Parvati's husband Om Aggarwal was played by TV actor Kiran Karmarkar.

Brother bonding: Ali Asgar played the role of Kamal Aggarwal in the show. Asgar is otherwise known as a comedian, he won Comedy Circus in 2007. He has also appeared in a few films like the Govinda-Salman starrer Partner.

Generations after generation: In classic Ekta Kapoor style, the characters of Kahanii... defy all logic of age and mortality. Generations of characters are packed together in one scene. Tina Parekh leads what is referred to as 'the first leap characters'. Tina has been part of a number of Balaji Telefilms projects including Kasautii Zindagii Kay and Kabhi Yaar Kabhi Pyaar

The evil eye: Chetan Hansraj is the villainous element in the show. His character is called Sasha. He is already part of Ekta Kapoor latest big project, Kahaani Hamaaray Mahaabhaarat Ki as Bheem.

Evil disappeared: Shweta Kawatra played the role of Pallavi, the evil presence in the show. She started getting typecast as the essential vamp of Indian television, so she quit the show. The role was later played by Achint Kaur.

Mita makes an entry: Actress Mita Vashisht, known for roles in alternative Indian cinema, became a part of Kahaani, as Trishna Aggarwal.

Tisca zameen par: Before the phenomenal success of Taare Zameen Par, Tisca Chopra played the role of Mallika on Kahaani. This role was earlier played by singer-actress Rajeshwari Sachdev.

And it ends: After more than 2000 episodes and a staggering success for eight years, Ekta Kapoor has decided to close the show. Fans across the country are devastated, but let them not lose hope, as Ekta always has something dramatic up her sleeve.
