New Delhi: Actor Aamir Khan's new film Dangal will close 2016 with a bang (as his films do) and as the year winds down, excitement over the film is soaring. Aamir, 51, plays the reel version of wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat and Dangal chronicles how he trains his daughters Geeta and Babita to become wrestlers themselves. Geeta and Babita Phogat, two of India's most celebrated wrestlers, have won medals at the Commonwealth Games. Aamir plays both the older and younger versions of Mahavir Phogat, putting on 25 kilos and then shedding the extra weight while filming. 'Dangal' was one of Thursday's trends on Twitter, for several reasons.

The first song from the film, Haanikaarak Bapu, was released last weekend. Dangal's lyricist Amitabh Bhattacharya has now spoken to news agency IANS about the process of writing the movie's songs. "Aamir sir was involved, not interfering in the process of music and lyrics writing. The best part is Aamir sir understands the nuances of lyrics," Amitabh Bhattacharya said on Wednesday." he said.

"As we keep calling him a 'perfectionist', I understood why they say so when I worked with him. He is always interested in interacting with us (lyricist and composer) and to improve the narration from all aspects," he added.

Amitabh Bhattacharya also confessed to being an Aamir fan and said he had bunked classes to watch the actor's 1992 hit Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar five times (you and us both, Amitabh).

Meantime, the Dangal family, both reel and real, is prepping for a big weekend. Geeta Phogat is getting married this Sunday and Aamir Khan will be attending the wedding in her village of Balali in Haryana with the rest of the Dangal cast.

Aamir is also going to be gifting Geeta her wedding outfit, usually given by the father of the bride. The actor, who is very close to the Phogats, is personally supervising the buying of gifts for both the Phogats and the groom's family.

Twitter, where emotions always run high, is massively excited about the film.
