New Delhi: Aamir Khan's PK, which became the best performing Indian film abroad of all time after it released in China in May, has now crossed the Rs 300 crore milestone overseas, making it one of Bollywood's biggest success stories internationally.

Director Rajkumar Hirani told news agency IANS, "This film surprises me every month. It does well wherever it opens, last being Hong Kong. All I can say is there's happiness."

Producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra added, "It's so wonderful to know that we have crossed Rs 300 crores worldwide. To me, it means that Hindi cinema has now gone global."

A source from the film's unit said, "Till now, the film has collected Rs 303 crore in overseas markets and still running in few territories like Hong Kong and South Korea. PK had collected Rs 348 crore net in India and the combined total stands at (over) Rs 651 crores."

The film has managed impressive collections in territories like China, North America, Gulf, Britain and Australia. It has also done 'exceptionally well' in non-traditional markets like Hong Kong, Taiwan, South Korea, Netherlands and Germany.

Dubbed in Chinese, PK opened in 4,600 screens across the country - one of the widest releases any Indian film has received abroad.

PK released on December 19 last year and collected Rs 615 crores worldwide, breaking Aamir Khan's own record of Dhoom: 3's total earnings of Rs 540 crores at home and abroad.

The film, in which Aamir plays a displaced alien who challenges conventional notions of religion and God, has been accused by some of being anti-Hindu. It co-stars Anushka Sharma, Sushant Singh Rajput and Sanjay Dutt.
