Mumbai: Bollywood director Aanand L Rai, who has made movies like Tanu Weds Manu and Raanjhanaa, said that a story is the most important factor for the audience.

Mr Rai attended a session called Meet The Director, organized by Indian Film and Television Directors' Association (IFTDA). The session was moderated by renowned filmmaker Sudhir Mishra.

The first session on October 4 saw a packed house filled with aspiring film makers and students. Mr Rai shared his inspiration of being a film maker and his journey from television direction to film direction apart from his making Tanu Weds Manu,Raanjhanaa and Tanu Weds Manu Returns.

Regarding the importance of narrating a story for film making, Mr Rai said: "For a director, it is most important factor whether the story can connect to the audience. If they appreciate the narrative, which makes the film successful, then that is an achievement for a filmmaker."

"If viewers are spending money for a film, then it is necessary to be sure for them, whether the film is worth the expenditure. Other than the story, one more thing that catches everyone's attention is the actors featuring in the project," he added.

The grapevine also suggests that Katrina Kaif and Shah Rukh Khan will feature in Mr Rai's next project. However, Mr Rai did not comment on that and said that he is working on a script.

"I am a laid back kind of a director. It takes time for me to make a film. Currently I am working on a script, give me some time. I will let you know the details later," said Mr Rai.
