Locals in the British city of Leicester were served a helping of Bollywood tadka with their Sunday roast with actor Abhishek Bachchan in town to campaign for Labour MP Keith Vaz on April 19.

Thousands of residents lined the streets of the Midlands town which has a large Indian community. Abhishek was welcomed by dholaks and confetti as he drove through Leicester with Mr Vaz. Later, there was an interactive session with fans and the now obligatory selfie-taking.

The Happy New Year actor commented on the Bollywood fan base in Leicester saying, "It just goes to show how diverse our population is and where all they are and it is great to be in touch with them."

When a nine-year-old fan asked Abhishek to pick his favourite film from Refugee and Happy New Year, the actor made a somewhat surprising confession. He said, "I'll tell you a secret, I hate all my films. Whenever I go back and see them, I can just think of so many more ways I could have done a better job. So I get demoralised when I see my work. But I do watch it often to try and improve. So, that's something you should always do. Never just sit back and be complacent. Always be hungry to improve yourself. And whatever you are best at, you should give it your all. But come back six months later and make sure you are improving. That means you are growing as a human being."

He was instantly asked to explain why he hates all of his films. Abhishek said, "Because I don't think I am good enough. I wish I could do better."

On Twitter, Abhishek thanked Keith Vaz and Leicester for the 'loving reception':

Mr Vaz, who has been the Labour MP from Leicester East since 1987 and is seeking re-election when Britain goes to polls next month, thanked the actor for coming:

Meanwhile, football fan Abhishek made sure it wasn't just all work and no play for him in England. The actor, who owns the football franchise Chennaiyin FC back home, caught the Premier League match between Chelsea and Manchester United at the Stamford Bridge stadium in Fulham. After the match, which Chelsea won 1-0, Abhishek was spotted with the club's striker Didier Drogba at a charity event.
