Udta Punjab released on Friday after tackling an almost week long controversy. First was their fight against the Central Board of Film Certification, which ordered as many as 89 cuts and an alteration of the film's title. After that was resolved, the film leaked online, two days prior to release.

Directed by Abhishek Chaubey, Udta Punjab explores the disturbing world of drug trafficking vis-a-vis the life of a drug addicted rockstar Tommy Singh played by Shahid and a Bihari migrant (Alia). Kareena Kapoor Khan plays a doctor who wants to bring down the drug menace with the help of a cop played by Diljit Dosanjh.
