Superstar Amitabh Bachchan is the latest victim of fake death rumours.
On Tuesday, this report
declared Mr Bachchan dead in a car crash on Route 80 between the towns of Roswell and Morristown in the US.
The report claimed that Mr Bachchan had lost control of a friend's car and that witnesses had seen him hit the centre lane divider. It also said he was killed instantly and identified by photo ID found on his body.
As rumours of Mr Bachchan's death flooded the Internet, outraged fans took to Twitter:
Mr Bachchan is not the first celebrity to have been killed by deliberate rumour. Rihanna, Johnny Depp, Tom Hanks, Britney Spears and even Lata Mangeshkar are part of a list of famous people falsely reported dead, usually in a car crash or an equally tragic accident.
Mr Bachchan himself has not responded to the death hoax, but we know he's alive and well because he's been his usual busy self on Twitter.
