It wasn't all cycling around and meeting former cricket stars for Amitabh Bachchan in Kolkata. Big B, who wrapped his Piku shoot in the city yesterday, also had a close encounter with a sitar - or the camera.

Mr Bachchan, who's character in the film is pot-beliied and grey-haired, posted pictures of himself pretending to play a sitar for a scene.

On his blog, Mr Bachchan wrote: "And then for the shot a small effort at the sitar myself .. been a while since I held the sitar .. magic .. never learnt how to play one and still have no idea .. but just to pretend that I do is in itself such a feel .. Amitabh Bachchan has had several musical trysts for the big screen in the past. In one of his best-known films, Abhimaan, he plays a famous singer plagued with professional jealousy of his more-talented wife. In 1977's Alaap, he plays the aspiring musician son disowned by his rich father.

Piku, directed by Shoojit Sircar, co-stars Deepika Padukone as Mr Bachchan's daughter. It releases next April.
