Mumbai: Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap said that the failure of a film should be attributed to its director.

"I might make a film, but people might say it's just my film. But I've always believed that as a filmmaker I'm in a very different zone as compared to others, because when a film works, the credit goes to the entire team. But when it fails, only the director is to be blamed because only he had the power to say 'no'," said Mr Kashyap.

Mr Kashyap had directed Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma in Bombay Velvet, which failed to perform at the box office.

"And the point where he does not say 'no' is where his failures lie. In things that he did not stand up and say, 'no this does not work'. So as a filmmaker, I'm in a very privileged position to say 'yes' or 'no', whereas whole lot of people are working all the time," he added.

Mr Kashyap, who started the production house Phantom Films with other filmmakers like Vikas Bahl, Madhu Mantena and Vikramaditya Motwane, firmly believes in collaborations.(Also Read: Anurag Kashyap Wants Gangs of Wasseypur Writer to Direct Part 3)

"I've always had a great team. I firmly believe in collaborations. Individually, you can be and survive but if you need to build something then collaborations have to be there since they are very handy," he said.
