Anurag Kashyap on Bombay Velvet 'Disaster': Not Depressed or Hiding

Anurag Kashyap says Bombay Velvet will remain his personal favourite

Mumbai: The box office and critics have been hating on director Anurag Kashyap's Bombay Velvet but that does not mean the filmmaker is 'depressed or hiding.' Mr Kashyap wrote that the film was 'worth the pain' in a Facebook post on May 17.

It is time to 'close the book and move on' and he 'firmly believes in the film,' Mr Kashyap wrote. "This is the film I wanted to make and I am glad I got to make it. I am very happy that all those who have been part of this journey firmly stand with it. No, I am not depressed or hiding, this has taught us a lot and is my absolute personal favourite, there have been no regrets whatsoever," he added. Bombay Velvet has been worth all the heart ache and pain and a memory to cherish for life. The Applause or Brickbats do not matter, what matters is who is standing in the arena. I WILL BE BACK," he added.

Mr Kashyap also thanked several cast and crew members in the lengthy post: "Thank you for your pride and love in what we did together, the process was beautiful and we have all come back richer from it. I think I am very rich today for having so many friends and people in my life and their faith."

Bombay Velvet, starring Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma and Karan Johar, is set in the underbelly of Sixties era Mumbai. Reviews of the film have been poor, box office collections unkind. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh described the film's opening day takings as a 'disaster' and pegged its collections in the first two days at Rs 10.30 cr.

Some have compared Anurag Kashyap's work in Bombay Velvet to that of Ram Gopal Varma's ill-fated Aag, including RGV himself. On Twitter, however, the movie has received compliments from several Bollywood colleagues.

Anurag Kashyap, director of critically acclaimed films like Gangs of Wasseypur, Dev D and Ugly, is now looking forward to his next project and has no intention to leave his director's chair: "Films is what I breathe, what I live for, does not matter where I go and where I stay, I will only make films, and no I am not done with making films in and about my country, rest is just a little detour."

Bombay Velvet released last Friday and also co-stars Kay Kay Menon and Satyadeep Misra with a cameo appearance by Raveena Tandon.
