As Non-Porn Sites Are Unblocked, Celebs Say Banning is 'Scary Culture'

Actors Sonam Kapoor and Farhan Akhtar were quite vocal in their views on the new culture of banning

New Delhi: As the government reworks its decree to block over 800 websites allegedly hosting pornographic content, celebrities from Bollywood questioned the series of bans that have been imposed recently, including on the food product Maggi.

Actor-director Farhan Akhtar told NDTV, "I feel the culture of banning is a scary culture. At the end of the day it creates parallel systems and black markets. It's not because you've banned it that young people are going to stop watching it.

As opposed to educating them about effects, if at all, on the mind from watching too much porn or on your sexuality or your concepts of relationships - that's slightly more constructive than just saying you can't. Because when you tell young people you can't, it just doesn't work."

Telecoms have now been directed to unblock several non-pornographic sites that had been affected. These included humour and dating portals.

Twitter has been filled with celebrities discussing the blocking.
