Bollywood in 2015: Of Mystery Men and Return of the Legends

Bollywood in 2015: Of Mystery Men and Return of the Legends

Ranbir Kapoor and Sushant Singh Rajput will be seen playing detectives in Jagga Jasoos and Detective Byomkesh Bakshy respectively

The year 2015 is packed with promising releases from the younger crop of actors from the film fraternity as well as its superstars.

Actor Ranbir Kapoor, whose last release Besharam failed miserably at the box office in 2014, has a slew of big releases lined up this year - Roy opposite Jacqueline Fernandez, Bombay Velvet opposite Anushka Sharma and Jagga Jasoos opposite his rumoured girlfriend Katrina Kaif and Tamasha with ex flame Deepika Padukone.

Director Anurag Kashyap's Bombay Velvet starring Ranbir and Anushka, made on a budget of a whopping Rs 100 crore, has been facing a delay in its release since 2014. While Anurag says that he spends a lot of time on post-production, Ranbir backs him up stating that a deadline or a release date kills the creativity of a film. Ranbir says that Bombay Velvet is a very passionate project for everyone involved with the film and he would rather wait until the pending rough edges in the movie are corrected before it is released for the public.

An interesting element in the film is director Karan Johar's role of a baddie, to which Anurag comments, "Karan Johar was amazing. He never came on the sets as a director. He came completely as an actor and didn't ask anything about the direction even once."

While Ranbir gets rather myserious with his role of a thief in Roy and Jagga Jasoos, Sushant Singh Rajput's thriller Detective Byomkesh Bakshy will see him donning the role of a detective in his debut film. The film's director Dibakar Banerjee believes Sushant is on the cusp of a huge breakthrough into stardom and the actor's ability to understate on camera drew him to cast Sushant.

Meanwhile, actor Varun Dhawan is also ready to stun the audience with his dancing skills in ABCD 2 opposite Shraddha Kapoor. Varun has reportedly learnt various dance forms like Hip Hop, B - Boying, Locking and Popping for the movie.

While the young guns of Bollywood seem to be set to rule the box office, the legends of the industry are also preparing to rule the roost.

Megastar Amitabh Bachchan will be seen in Shamitabh with Dhanush and in Piku with Deepika Padukone, both of which have already created a stir among their fans. While Shamitabh's audio poster recording drunk Big B's voice is rather hilarious, his look with a paunch in PK looks quite adorable.

Shah Rukh Khan will also be seen in Maneesh Sharma's Fan, where the real-life superstar plays the fan of a reel-life superstar in the film.

Actor Salman Khan unites with director Sooraj Barjatya after 20 years for Prem Ratan Dhan Payo. Salman will also be seen opposite his Bodyguard co-star Kareena Kapoor in Kabir Khan's Bajrangi Bhaijaan.

While 2014 was reigned by the leading ladies of Bollywood, seems like the men are set to rule the box office in 2015.
