New Delhi: Aamir Khan's PK, which became the best performing Indian film abroad of all time just a day after it released in China last Friday, has now crossed the Rs 200 crore milestone overseas. Currrent business at the Chinese box office stands at a whopping $7.03 million, which is approximately Rs 46.7 crores.

Amrita Pandey of UTV Motion Pictures, which co-produced the film along with Aamir Khan, Vidhu Vinod Chopra and Rajkumar Hirani, told news agency IANS, "We are thrilled with the audience response in China. Aamir Khan, Rajkumar Hirani and Vidhu Vinod Chopra travelled across China with our marketing team promoting the film and culminated this with a grand premiere in Shanghai for the film."

"It was such a warm reception for them in China and now the movie has become a talking point and opened to such phenomenal collections! This is a really proud moment for us, and we are happy to have made this impact in a new market," she added.

When it released in India and other countries in December 2014, PK shattered records not just at home but also in Australia, New Zealand and Pakistan where it is now the highest earning Indian film. It is the highest grossing foreign language movie in North America of 2014.

Bollywood pundits have likely run out of superlatives to describe the film's business, having already used up 'all time blockbuster.' PK, which made Rs 3.43 million at the Chinese box office in two days, was declared India's best performer abroad by trade analyst Taran Adarsh on May 23.

Dubbed in Chinese, PK opened in 4,600 screens across the country - one of the widest releases any Indian film has received abroad.

Team PK - actor Aamir Khan, director Rajkumar Hirani and producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra - toured China a fortnight ago to promote their film which premiered in Shanghai on May 13.

PK released on December 19 last year and collected Rs 615 crores worldwide, breaking Aamir Khan's own record of Dhoom: 3's total earnings of Rs 540 crores at home and abroad.

The film, in which Aamir plays a displaced alien who challenges conventional notions of religion and God, has been accused by some of being anti-Hindu. It co-stars Anushka Sharma, Sushant Singh Rajput and Sanjay Dutt.
