Dress, not sari, for Ash's first day out in Cannes

Dress, not sari, for Ash's first day out in Cannes
One day after her fashion secrets for Cannes this year were revealed, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan made a spectacular and surprising first appearance on the Croisette in a flowing, monochrome maxidress that was forgiving to her post baby curves. The designer she chose for her 2012 red carpet debut was not Bachchan favourite Abu Jani-Sandeep Khosla, but little known Australian designer Angelo Katsapis.

This is Ash's eleventh year at Cannes as a L'Oreal brand ambassador, and her first red carpet outing since the birth of daughter Aaradhya in November last year. Her Cannes wardrobe was kept a closely guarded secret, and just yesterday Abu-Sandeep were revealed to be dressing her. Her outfits were said to include a cream chikankari sari and an anarkali style kurta, neither of which were in evidence on her first day out in Cannes.

What Ash would wear was the subject of much debate and speculation, as was her failure to shed her post pregnancy weight. The Angelo Katsapis dress proved a clever choice, as it covers up, rather than reveals, and flatters her figure.

Apart from her red carpet appearances, Ash is also going to attend a fundraiser for AIDS research. There are still four days to closing day at Cannes and, now that she's taken everyone by surprise with her first outfit, there's no doubt that all eyes will be on Ash the next few days, like never before.
