New Delhi: We've already given you a scoop on the invite to actor Shahid Kapoor's July 7 wedding to Mira Rajput and now, we're acquainting you with the man who created the elegant card - Delhi-based designer Ravish Kapoor.

In an exclusive interview to NDTV, Mr Kapoor, who's A-list clients also include Shilpa Shetty, Hrithik Roshan and Karisma Kapoor, spoke about what inspires his creations and his idea of the perfect invitation card.

An invitation card provides the first impression of the planned event and functions as an extended imprint of the hosts. "The invitation is important as it sets the tone of what is to come. When people receive a lavish invitation they know that this event is one not to be missed as the invitation tells them it will be a grand affaire," Mr Kapoor said. The designer runs a design agency called Ravish Kapoor Innovative Invitations which has showrooms in Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata and even a studio in Los Angeles. He specialises in 'out-of-the-box' invitations for weddings, anniversaries, baby showers, birthdays, inaugurations and parties of every sort. Mr Kapoor says his designs aim to make "the guests go WOW and add something special to the momentous celebratory occasions that a family shares together."

"Most clients invite me to their functions so in the evenings I am usually seen around town attending a wedding or birthday or other celebrations and it is nice to hear people give their accolades about the Ravish Kapoor invitation they received," he said. For Shahid Kapoor, he designed a card in a cream and turquoise colour combination which, he said, "followed Shahid's brief of simple yet elegant."

Along with the invite went the customary gifts but with an elegant twist, just as Shahid wanted - handcrafted tea and honey.

So what inspires his designs?

"Our inspiration comes from all areas. A stroll through the craft museum can inspire traditional imagery for invites. Visiting a city and looking at its details in architecture can inspire you to shapes, patterns and design concepts. Antique stores are treasures for pattern and old world feel. Even on the Internet, looking at art and other forms of imagery that draw inspiration. Inspiration is everywhere you never know when the light bulb will switch on and an invitation will be created from it. We have done so many invitations each time we are given a brief for something exciting it inspires us to come up with something wow," he said.

Of his several high-profile clients, the highlight has been the wedding invite he created for actress Shilpa Shetty and her husband Raj Kundra. "We also worked on a beautiful round acrylic box with crystal inlay - this was fun because the client was very particular as to what they wanted and it is always fun to turn a client's dream invitation into a reality," Ravish Kapoor said.

A typical day in his life involves striking a work-life balance. He said, "I get up and spend time with my family and kids and then go to the office to get the production rolling. I usually discuss with my head creative items I am hoping to receive by the end of the day. Then I go to the gym and run off all my stress and come back to the office. I meet with clients based on their schedule so usually I finish office late."

Shahid Kapoor will marry Delhi girl Mira Rajput at the Trident Hotel in Gurgaon on July 7. A reception in Mumbai will reportedly follow. By some accounts, Shahid and Mira are going to skip their honeymoon because of the Haider actor's commitments to talent show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa which he will be judging.
