Fashion designers pay tribute to Shammi and Raj Kapoor

Designer Krishna Mehta paida special tribute to screen icons Raj Kapoor, Shammi Kapoorand Dev Anand in her new collection on the second day of VanHeusen India Mens Week Autumn/Winter 2011 today (September 3).

Titled as 'Bollywood yesteryear actors, the collectionfocused on the way the actors created a style statementonscreen.

With a medley of old Hindi numbers such as Yahoo, Gatarahe mera dil playing in the background, Mehta presented herhigh energy collection.

"My collection was a tribute to Shammi Kapoor. I haveinfused the style of three great yesteryear actors - RajKapoor, Shammi Kapoor and Dev Anand. I have taken threequarter pants of Raj kapoor sahab, hats of Dev Anand ji andthe style of Shammi ji," said the designer.

Her collection saw bandhgalas, achkans and short jacketsteamed up with jeans and three quarter trousers in the hues ofblack, white and beige.

"My idea was to show the youngsters that they should notforget our age old traditions and they can nicely blend theirpast with present and can come up with a new style statementof their own," Mehta said.

Designer Rajvi Mohan also took inspiration fromyesteryear stars in her collection titled Phir Bhi dil haiHindustani. She presented her collection with Yahoo andMera joota hai japani playing in the background.
