Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweets: #Himmatwala collected approx Rs 31.1 cr nett in its opening weekend. Breakup: Fri 12.1 cr, Sat 8.5 cr, Sun 10.5 cr.
He put things into perspective with: In view of the fact that UTV has given #Himmatwala a wide release, the weekend numbers are shockingly low.
's poor performance in India was matched by dismal numbers abroad as well.
Taran Adarsh called the film's Friday takings of USD 71,000 in the US "poor" and called out low opening in other countries as well: #Himmatwala has low opening in Overseas... Friday: UK Pounds 41,917 [17 screens to report]... Australia ADollar 25,142... New Zealand NZDollar 14,782.
's disappointing opening collection indicates a gloomy fiscal future for the film, which is unlikely to earn the Rs 200 crores that director Sajid Khan said he expected.
In contrast, the original Himmatwala
was 1983's top earning film.
