Kochi: Filmmaker Kabir Khan said that he decided to cast Salman Khan in Bajrangi Bhaijaan because of the actor's secular ideology.

"After Ek Tha Tiger, I started spending a lot of time with Salman. One thing that I have realised is that he feels very strongly about a few issues, especially how secularism is perceived in India.Salman is a living example of secularism. When you go to his house, and see the way he lives with his family, you'll realise that there cannot be a more secular person than him," said Kabir. Through Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Kabir wanted to highlight the secular side of Salman.

"Salman's secular feeling has never been articulated in the right way. He's a superstar, and when he speaks, millions will listen. Around this time, I was working on the story of Bajrangi Bhaijaan, and I felt that he would fit the bill," added Kabir.

Salman and Kabir also had their differences.

"We had a lot of clashes while working on Ek Tha Tiger because both of us came from two different worlds. Towards the end of the film, we started understanding each other and that resulted in the commercial success of the film," said Kabir.

"I read Salman's body language while narrating the story to him. When he heard the story, he literally jumped with excitement. He asked me to make the film without compromising on anything. Moreover, he also asked me to protect the story from him and the studios," added Kabir.
