New Delhi:
No horns and no revelry. The trailer launch of Hrithik Roshan's upcoming thriller film
Kaabil was an understated one. At first glance, what looked like an interesting promotional strategy on the part of the makers for this
grim and dark tale was soon revealed to be nothing but a bad case of cyber-crime.
According to a report in
Times of India, the fact that both Hrithik and his co-star in
Kaabil, Yami Gautam, released the trailer of the film suddenly on Twitter on Tuesday evening without any previous notice was induced by the fact that the trailer was already out due to a leak generating from unknown sources.
If the
report is to be believed, producer Rakesh Roshan and his team at production company FilmKraft initially slated Wednesday, October 26, for the release of
Kaabil's trailer, also starring Ronit and Rohit Roy. Once the trailer started doing the rounds online, however, the build-up had to be cut short. A 'shocked' Rakesh was then advised by the team to do the next best thing - release the trailer through the official handle as the damage had already been done.
Rakesh told
Times of India, "We had planned our marketing and PR strategy around the actual date of the trailer launch. Now everything had to be changed at the last minute. I'm shocked and saddened at this hacking or stealing or whatever it is. It's obviously with a malicious intent. What pleasure can someone get by doing this? It's just hurtful. But now we have upped the ante and are being even more vigilant around the movie release."
Now, the team is
looking into the matter in an attempt to nab the source of the leak. Meanwhile, it seems that the leak and change in schedule has only work wonders for the team of
Kaabil, with the trailer being loved by fans. Within a few hours of release, the trailer was trending online as well.
Kaabil features Hrithik and Yami as a visually impaired couple, with the former having to t
ake the role as vigilante when tragedy strikes. Directed by Sanjay Gupta, is slated for a January 26, 2017 release.
