Jolly LLB scores big at the box office

Jolly LLB scores big at the box office

While Arshad Warsi's movie raked in Rs 12.20 crore in its first three days, the other releases fell flat on their faces.

Highlights

  • Among the three films to release last Friday (March 15, 2013), only Subhash Kapoor's Jolly LLB managed to bring in a decent response. The other two Viki Rajani's 3G and Yash Raj's Mere Dad Ki Maruti haven't pulled in the moolah.
  • Though there were many expectations from Jolly LLB, the film opened with mixed response. The film has managed to collect around Rs 12.20 crore in its first three days with Friday (March 15, 2013) being Rs 3.15 crore, Saturday (March 16, 2013) being Rs 4 crore and Sunday (March 17, 2013) being Rs 5.5 crore.
  • In the meanwhile, 3G has managed to collect only Rs 3.28 crore in its opening weekend with Friday (March 15, 2013) being Rs 1.07 crore, Saturday (March 16, 2013) being Rs 1.03 crore and Sunday (March 17, 2013) being Rs 1.16 crore.
  • Finally Mere Dad Ki Maruti closed at Rs 4.36 crore in its opening weekend with Friday (March 15, 2013) Rs 1.03 crore, Saturday (March 16, 2013) Rs 1.45 crore and Sunday (March 17, 2013) Rs 1.90 crore. Last week's release Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster Returns' collection after the second weekend (Rs 2 crore) is Rs 20.24 crore. While Saare Jahan Se Mehnga's first week collections were around Rs 73 lakh only.
  • Trade analyst Amod Mehra said, "Jolly LLB is decent. Mere Dad Ki Maruti did get critical acclaim but that did not transfer into any footfalls and the weekend collections aren't too high. 3G is a total washout. Subhash Kapoor's film was promoted as a comedy and that is why people came to the theatres. However, it turned out to be a serious film. The strategy worked but it is difficult to sustain. It is ultimately a dry film and best suitable for satellite channels."
  • Meanwhile, trade guru Atul Mohan pointed out, "Jolly LLB has proved to be an earning proposition for its investors. 3G is a losing proposition and the lack of star value has been its undoing. Mere Dad Ki Maruti has been liked in the North. The film was made on a small budget and they recovered most of the money from the car brand."
