Mumbai: Actress Kareena Kapoor Khan will play a doctor in Udta Punjab.

"I play a doctor in the film. It's (the role) very simple and nice, a good Samaritan kind of a thing. But the whole atmosphere of the film is so nice and dark that the role is very different," Kareena told PTI.

Kareena also played the role of a doctor in Kyon Ki and 3 Idiots.

Udta Punjab, directed by Abhishek Chaubey, is being made after four years of research and is based around the drug-related issues prevalent in Punjab.

Kareena said that the movie is starkly different from her upcoming film Ki And Ka.

"Udta Punjab will be totally different from Ki And Ka because it is lot more fun, quirky and entertaining. Udta Punjab will be dark, gritty and an edgy kind of a film," she said.

The film, scheduled to release in June, and also stars Alia Bhatt, Shahid Kapoor and Prabhjyot Singh.

Punjabi actor Diljit Dosanjh will also feature in the film.

Nowadays, Kareena does one or two films in a year.

"It is a conscious decision, yes. I want to do something which is great, something that I love, which will get me excited to go to the studio and do it. So, it is going to take a lot out of me to say yes," added Kareena.

Ki And Ka will release on April 1. (Also Read: New Ki And Ka Song: What Went Wrong in Kareena, Arjun's Love Story)
