Veteran actor Om Puri starrer Khap, which deals with the issue of honour killing, is all set to hit cinema houses on July 29.
Directed by Ajay Sinha, 'Khap' deals with the issue of Khap Panchayats, a system of social administration prevalent in villages of Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh, adopting
extreme ends to prevent marriages within the same 'gotra',
often resulting in multiple deaths.
"It is shocking that even in today's time such customs exist in some places in our country. 'Khap' is a gusty and honest film on the issue of honour killings," Sinha said after announcing the movie's release date at a function here this evening.
"The Supreme Court has announced that Khap panchayat is illegal and it is inhuman to kill young children in the name
of false honor. There are many communities in the world who allow intra-community marriage. I assert that killing innocent children is against the law," Puri said.
Khap, produced by Sangita Sinha and Siddhant Sinha of Ananda Film and Telecommunications, also stars Govind Namdev, Manoj Pahwa, Anooradha Patel, Mohnish Bahl and Yuvika Choudhary.
