Madhur Bhandarkar to Receive Honorary Doctorate in Arts

Mumbai: National Award-winning filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar will receive an honorary Doctorate in Arts from Ahmedabad's Rai University for his contribution to Indian cinema.

Best known for his films like Chandni Bar, Page 3, Traffic Signal and Fashion, Madhur Bhandarkar will be given the honour at the annual convocation ceremony of the educational institute on Saturday, read a statement.

Mr Bhandarkar is known for making films on real life issues through his films.

"I owe my success and recognition to the movies I have made and the whole team behind it. These recognitions are responsibilities which push you to do better work," said Mr Bhandarkar.

In an official statement, a spokesperson of Rai University said: "We want to honour the hard work and commitment of the director, who hails from a middle class, non-film background and has carved a unique space for his genre of cinema through his sheer perseverance and focus."
