Manjhi - The Mountain Man Tax-Free in Uttarakhand

Dehradun: After Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand has now made Nawazuddin Siddiqui's latest film Manjhi - The Mountain Man tax-free in the state.

The Ketan Mehta-directed film, which released on August 21, was granted the tax-free status by Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat. (Read review: Manjhi - The Mountain Man)

According to a statement, film specialists met Mr Rawat and requested him to waive off tax on the film.

Manjhi - The Mountain Man is based on the life of Dashrath Manjhi, a labourer from Gehlaur village in Gaya district widely known as the Mountain Man.

Using just a hammer and a chisel, Dashrath Manjhi, reduced a 55-kilometre journey to 15-kilometre by cutting a direct path through a mountain. He did so after his wife died after an accident because she had not been able to receive urgent medical care in time. In the film, Nawazuddin plays the role of Dashrath Manjhi, while Radhika Apte plays his wife.
