New Delhi: A major chunk of the Bollywood fraternity flew down to Hyderabad for the nuptials of actor Salman Khan's sister Arpita on November 18. However, there were some notable absentees in the form of the Bachchans, Shah Rukh Khan and Hrithik Roshan. Most remarkable, perhaps, was the no-show by Salman Khan's Dabangg co-star Sonakshi Sinha and her rumoured boyfriend Arjun Kapoor. Arjun Kapoor, who is the bride's ex-boyfriend and was Salman's protege at one time, was reportedly not even invited to the wedding. The Ishaqzaade actor, who was regularly spotted at all Khan family events not so very long ago, was allegedly disinvited at the request of the groom, Aayush Sharma. Aayush reportedly didn't want his special night to include Arpita's ex-beau.
Arjun's Tevar co-star Sonakshi Sinha too skipped the wedding even though she was invited by Salman Khan opposite who she debuted in Dabangg. Sonakshi is reportedly dating Arjun and has been on several holidays and movie dates with him and his sister Anshula. Some time ago, Sonakshi was reported to have fallen out with Salman after she rejected a script by his brother and
Dabangg 2 director Arbaaz Khan. However, both parties dismissed the rumours and Sonakshi was also seen at the Khan family Diwali party this year.
Meanwhile, Arjun was not the only one not invited to the wedding. Actor Ranbir Kapoor too reportedly did not receive an invitation from the Khans, even though his rumoured girlfriend Katrina Kaif was very much on the guest list. Katrina, who reportedly dated Salman before Ranbir, is one of Arpita's closest friends and is included by the Khans in celebrations like Ganesh Chaturthi, Diwali and Eid parties. She was photographed at the wedding wearing a white and gold outfit.
The non-appearance of actor Shah Rukh Khan, who had said that he would have attended Arpita's wedding invite-less, may have puzzled some. However, he made a spectacular appearance at Arpita's
haldi-sangeet in Mumbai on November 16, ending a long-standing feud with Salman. And therefore, Shah Rukh's absence in Hyderabad might not count for very much.
A super-sized gap in the VIP guests was left by the Bachchan clan. Amitabh Bachchan was invited to the wedding but didn't show up, possibly because he was wrapping up filming
Piku in Kolkata. His son Abhishek took the same flight to Hyderabad as the other celebs - Aamir Khan Priyanka Chopra and Katrina - but flew on to Chennai where his football team Chennayin FC is scheduled to play Pune City tonight. Abhishek is, of course, married to Salman Khan's ex-girlfriend Aishwarya Rai who presumably was not expected to attend.
The only representative (if he can be counted as one) from Bollywood's first family was their prospective nephew-in-law, actor Kunal Kapoor who is engaged to Big B's niece Naina.
Actress Deepika Padukone, who was shooting for
Piku with Big B in Kolkata, was also missing in action at the wedding for reasons best known to her. We also have no idea why Hrithik Roshan didn't show.
