Om Puri is confident the movie will gain through word-of-mouth publicity
Veteran actor Om Puri, who will be next seen in Jai Ho Democracy, says the political comedy is as mainstream as any other masala film, but without any of Bollywood's celebrity Khans.
Mr Puri said, "These kind of films have small budgets, but I want to tell you all that it's a mainstream film. It's just that there are no Khans in this film."
He added that the movie had "all the masala" of a mainstream Hindi film and that it was a comic take on how powerful groups in society continued to procrastinate and maintain status quo, unfazed by the gravity of the situations at hand.
Besides giving a message of hope for peace between two neighbouring countries,
Jai Ho Democracy also gives a humorous insight into the media's desperation in highlighting unworthy issues.
Hopeful that the movie would gain through word-of-mouth publicity, Mr Puri said, "Such a film will have an effect on only a few people. But even if it makes a 10 percent difference (in society), then one feels one is on the right track. Such films should be made for the better."
