He also said that five of the best initiatives will get a prize each.

New Delhi: Actor Salman Khan is taking his personal effort in Prime Minister Modi's Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan a step - or rather, a 100 steps - forward. After the Kick star announced on social media that he would tag 100 fans every month in the cleanliness drive chain, PM Modi sent him a congratulatory message on Twitter.

Mr Khan, 49, has cleaned and painted three villages in Maharashtra after being nominated by Mr Modi on October 2, Mahatma Gandhi's birth anniversary, last year. He's now expanding:

On his official Facebook page Salman wrote: "The Honorable Prime Minister nominated me for the Swachh Bharat campaign and I have cleaned and painted three villages in Maharashtra so far. I intend to continue with this initiative, but Swachh Bharat is not about what one of us can do. It's about what each of us can do. So today, on Republic Day, I am taking this campaign social. I will nominate 100 followers a month for Swachh Bharat. Please start a sustainable Swachh Bharat initiative in and around your area of work or residence or both. Upload your before and after pictures or videos. Five of the best initiatives will get special mention on my Facebook page and also win a prize each. Kya bolte ho? Shuru karein? First list will be up tomorrow."

PM Modi, who nominated nine prominent Indians to participate in the massive Clean India campaign last year, tweeted:

On October 22 last year, Salman Khan posted pictures of himself cleaning up a village in Maharashtra. He also tagged actors Rajinikanth and Aamir Khan in the cleanliness drive.

Meanwhile, Salman Khan is also busy filming director Kabir Khan's Bajrangi Bhaijaan, co-starring actress Kareena Kapoor Khan.
