Preity Zinta on Maggi Controversy: Being Sued For Doing Commercial 12 Years Ago

Preity has been named in an FIR filed by an advocate in Uttar Pradesh

New Delhi: Actress Preity Zinta, one of the three Bollywood celebrities involved in the fallout from the Maggi noodles controversy, has put out a perplexed tweet pointing out that she endorsed the Nestle product 12 years ago.

In a live chat with fans on Twitter, the Salaam Namaste actress responded to a question about whether the 'lapse in time was reason for dropping the charge' by saying:

A First Information Report or FIR filed by an advocate in Uttar Pradesh names Ms Zinta, Maggi noodles' current ambassador Madhuri Dixit and Amitabh Bachchan, who advertised the product before her.

Mr Bachchan told the press on Wednesday he hasn't received a legal notice yet and that he hasn't endorsed Maggi noodles for two years now. He said earlier that there are precautions he takes when signing up to endorse a brand.

Madhuri Dixit, the first of the three celebrities to respond to the controversy, tweeted about meeting with Nestle officials.

Maggi noodles are currently the focus of a nationwide scrutiny with several states testing the product for higher than permissible levels of lead and monosodium glutamate or MSG. Kerala has ordered a recall of Maggi noodles from 1300 government-run outlets. The Delhi government met officials from Nestle after 10 of 13 packs tested were found to have high lead content and has banned the sale of Maggi noodles in the capital for 15 days.

Nestle has said it conducted external as well as in-house tests on Maggi and that the noodles were 'safe to eat.'
