Rajkumar Hirani is one of the best filmmakers we have in Bollywood today. It was only fitting then that the MAMI Movie Mela started with a masterclass from the maker of 3 Idiots and PK at Mumbai's Mehboob studio on Saturday.
While much has been spoken about the two films, at the mela today, it was all about how to write a blockbuster. And since the next film on his mind is the biopic on Sanjay Dutt, the director spoke at length to Anupama Chopra.
"I was a little sceptical initially. I didn't want to touch upon the topic of the underworld. However, I found that Abhijat and I were going back to meet Sanjay Dutt almost every evening for the next 25 days," he said.
"I realised that there was so much more to his life. One evening he would want to talk about his drinking. It was so interesting that we would want to go back and drink," Mr Hirani added.
The script for the Sanjay Dutt biopic is now ready but Rajkumar Hirani is still unsure about the shooting dates. PK was made five years after 3 Idiots. Let's hope he does not do the same with the film on Sanjay Dutt.
