Mumbai: Actress Richa Chadha, who has always been a vocal supporter of women's rights, said that girls in India should at least have the freedom to be born first and then have the liberty to make other crucial decisions of their lives.

"Freedom for every Indian girl first and foremost is to take birth. She should then take up education, choose the career of her choice and marry the person she wishes to. As of now, if something of this magnitude happens, it'd still a significant development," said Richa to a query on what freedom meant for Indian girls.

She mentioned a strong woman character that she would love the opportunity to play. "Razia Sultan as she was the first strong female leader of our country. There is a need to throw further light on her life. A biopic has been done before, but a more beautiful one can definitely be done," she said.

Richa has always spoken up for any injustice against women right from the beginning. And this included an alleged incident where she herself raised her voice after being molested at a party.

On the occasion of Women's Day (March 8), she had stated: "I wish that people in this country, men and women, would start treating women as human beings, at par with men, and not just as baby-vending machines, unpaid household workers, dowry bringers and objects for sexual gratification."

She had also opined during PM Narendra Modi's recent #selfiewithdaughter' campaign, that: "The problems of the female - dowry, sexual harassment, eve teasing and others - cannot be solved by selfie or anything like that."

Richa has played strong women characters in most of her films like Gangs of Wasseypur, Fukrey and her recent film Masaan.
