Salman has delivered about Rs 508 crores - and counting - in Indian ticket sales this year. Salman, pushing 50, the only actor to have made Bollywood this much money, some 150 crores more than any other actor has managed in recent years. This includes Aamir Khan, who makes just one film a year (sometimes not even that)

Salman Khan's Prem Ratan Dhan Payo's total collections at home were just a shade under Rs 200 crores at last count. It trails his other film of the year Bajrangi Bhaijaan which closed with box office receipts of Rs 315 crores but together, both films have placed its star in a separate cash bracket of his own. That much reviled term '100 crore club' is for small fry now - Salman is now the only Bollywood actor whose films have made over Rs 500 crores in one year. This was trade analyst Taran Adarsh's summing up of the Barjatya-made Prem Ratan Dhan Payo's business yesterday:

Box Office India puts Bajrangi Bhaijaan's collections at over Rs 315 crores. Added up, Salman has delivered about Rs 508 crores - and counting - in Indian ticket sales this year. Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, co-starring Sonam Kapoor, opened on November 12, a day after Diwali. Bajrangi Bhaijaan was Salman's Eid offering in July. Salman, pushing 50, the only actor to have made Bollywood this much money, some 150 crores more than any other actor has managed in recent years. This includes Aamir Khan, who makes just one film a year (sometimes not even that) and whose PK made almost Rs 338 crores at the domestic box office in 2014. Until now, Aamir led Salman, who made about Rs 335 in 2012 with Ek Tha Tiger and Dabangg 2; Rs 320 crores in 2014 with Kick and Jai Ho; and Rs 264 crores in 2011 with Bodyguard and Ready. Shah Rukh Khan's best numbers so far have been Rs 207 crores for Chennai Express in 2013, which was the year's biggest film after Aamir's Dhoom: 3 which made Rs 260 crores.
This year, Salman has ruled the box office in the absence of an Aamir Khan film. Shah Rukh Khan's Dilwale, his only film of the three he's made to be releasing in 2014, is scheduled for mid-December. Akshay Kumar has so far been Salman's only competition with three films - Baby, Gabbar Is Back and Brothers - making a sum total of about Rs 237 crores, a figure far outstripped by Salman's.
2016 will be an exciting year of the box office calculus - Salman and Aamir both have a film apiece releasing with Sultan and Dangal, and SRK has two - Fan and Raees.
