Mumbai: Shahid Kapoor finally gave up his 'eligible bachelor' tag on Tuesday as he exchanged wedding vows with Delhi girl Mira Rajput in a simple ceremony in Gurgaon.

The wedding took place as per Arya Samaj rituals at West Green Farmhouse in Rajokri under a thick blanket of security.

Says a source, "It began at 11 am and was over in one-and-half hours. The Kapoors and Rajputs were certain that they wanted it to be an intimate affair. There were just about 40-odd people present for the nuptials. After a brief photo session as man and wife, the couple partied along with their respective families and close friends at the Trident Hotel where the reception took place." Another reception has also been planned on July 12 at the Palladium Hotel in Lower Parel here for Shahid's industry colleagues.

While Kunal Rawal designed Shahid's traditional outfit, Anamika Khanna had done up the 21-year-old bride's trousseau. The wedding menu included a lavish vegetarian fare as the couple's families are followers of the Radha Saomi Satsang Beas.

A source close to the actor reveals, "The road leading to the venue was cordoned off to keep gatecrashers as well as the paparazzi at bay. The walls of the farmhouse are 16-feet high and there was tight security."

In the build-up to the actor's big day, his friends had started posting pictures of the couple at their sangeet ceremony. Mira wore a yellow Banaras brocade lehenga pairing it with a peach choli designed by Anita Dongre.

She apparently wanted a light lehenga so that she could dance. Shahid and Mira performed on Tashan Mein Rehna from Sasha's 2011 film Mausam.

Sharing details of the pre-wedding festivities, Reshma Ruhi, one of the girls who applied mehendi on Mira's hands, says: "We had been called to do the mehendi for six people. I was called through a common friend of the Rajputs. The bride opted for a full design on her palms and a small pattern outside with a delicate floral henna art on her feet.

She also got Shahid's initials etched on her palms. Some other guests including Shahid's mother Neelima Azim also applied mehendi along with two of his friends who had flown in from Mumbai. The couple looked very nice together." It is said the girls were given Rs 1 lakh as shagun.

Nearly 50 rooms at The Trident, Gurgaon, had been booked for Shahid's family and guests, with the presidential suite reserved for the actor.

Gurgaon's Smitten Bakery was given the responsibility to have the guests savour the taste of specially formulated chocolate bars.

Smitten Bakery took to Instagram to post a picture of the customised chocolate bars that were in almond, currant and sea salt, and pumpkin seed and candied chilli flavours. Each bar had 'Smitten by love, bitten by marriage bug. Mira and Shahid' written on it.
