Sonakshi Sinha on being Bullett Rani, masala queen and 'pillion dollar baby'

Sonakshi is known for speaking her mind

Highlights

  • Sonakshi Sinha, daughter of the man Bollywood fondly calls Shotgun and star of a film titled Bullett Raja, is no stranger to loaded questions. She's also known for speaking her mind, a rare and refreshing standout in an industry peppered with half-truths and veiled references.
  • So, when asked by NDTV what she found most challenging about her role in Bullett Raja - in which she plays a struggling actress - Sonakshi replied with trademark honesty: "I hadn't been through the struggles that some people go through when they are wanting to become an actor so I found that aspect very interesting, that I would get to be somebody that I'm not."
  • Not many star children would admit so readily to the privileges a famous surname brings in the world of showbiz, the usual refrain being "a name only gets you a foot in the door, you have to struggle like everyone else."
  • Sonakshi has seven films out already, five of them blockbusters, and will have two more films out this year with Bullett Raja, co-starring Saif Ali Khan, and R...Rajkumar, co-starring Shahid Kapoor. She says she's perfectly happy being the 'masala queen' and that it's actually easier being natural and understated in a critical success like Lootera than mouthing a Dabangg dialogue convincingly: "Doing a commercial film, playing the kind of over-the-top characters is way more difficult."
  • The 'Bullett' in her next film's title is a reference to both the gangster element of the mafia-themed movie as well as to the Royal Enfield bike Saif rides in it. Sonakshi, "pillion dollar baby" and veteran of onscreen bike rides, professes herself completely ignorant of bikes in real life. However, she did once let off an airgun (and missed whatever she was aiming at).
  • This time, she would seem to be gunning for another box office triumph and, given her track record, chances are she won't miss.
