Subhash Ghai wants youngsters to give up wearing jeans

Panaji: Veteran filmmaker Subhash Ghai said that youngsters should not wear jeans anymore as it is not an indigenous piece of clothing.

"I would not like the younger generation to wear jeans anymore. Children must build national character, not corrupt it," Ghai told reporters on the sidelines of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2010.

The filmmaker, who has movies like Karma and Pardes to his credit, said that youngsters should shed their western faces or masks and give up outside influence in terms of clothing as well.

Ghai, known as the showman of Bollywood, conceded that cinema is a strong medium to incorporate national character in the youngsters.

His latest production, Bengali movie Noukadubi, directed by Rituparno Ghosh, was premiered at the festival on Wednesday. The film will be dubbed in Hindi and released simultaneously on January 23.
