Stills from the film Revolver Rani, Kaanchi

Highlights

  • As Bollywood’s recently crowned Queen, Kangana Ranaut hopes to keep her reign intact with another offbeat role, this one poles apart from the Rani from Rajouri she played in the Vikas Bahl-directed super hit. In Revolver Rani, she plays Alka, a dreaded, trigger-happy politician in Morena. The film, which also features Vir Das as her love interest, is directed by Sai Kabir and produced by actor-filmmaker Tigmanshu Dhulia, whose last release was the similarly-named Bullett Raja.
  • Veteran director Subhash Ghai returns to the box office after a long break of 6 years with Kaanchi starring Pyaar Ka Punchnama actor Kartik Tiwari and newcomer Mishti. From the trailer, film promises to be the usual Subhash Ghai magnum opus including fresh faces, scenic locations and melodious music.
  • Finally, we have Rajshri’s Samrat & Co starring Rajeev Khandelwal as a private detective investigating a mysterious case in a mysterious house. The mostly unknown cast features a few big names like Girish Karnad and Indraneil Sengupta.
  • On the Hollywood front, it’s the calm before the summer storm. This week we see only one release, Brick Mansions, which is riding on the fact that it is the last completed film of actor Paul Walker, who died in a car crash last year.
