Today's Big Releases: Gabbar Is Back, Uttama Villain, Nirbaak and Vai Raja Raja

New Delhi: After the crime fighting Avengers, it's now the corruption fighting Gabbar's turn at the box office. Today's first big release is Akshay Kumar's action drama Gabbar Is Back, which also stars Shruti Haasan and Kareena Kapoor.

In the Krish-directed film, Akshay plays the role of Gabbar, a vigilante hunting the corrupt. He may have adopted the name of Bollywood's most iconic villain, but this Gabbar seeks justice and equality for everyone.

Regional cinema has a rich seam of offerings today. The Tamil language Uttama Villain, starring Kamal Haasan in a double role, is making it to cinemas after fighting off a proposed ban by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad. Directed by Ramesh Aravind, the film also stars Andrea Jeremiah, Pooja Kumar, Jayaram and Nasser. Directors K Balachander, who died last year, and K Vishwanath make cameo appearances.

Srijit Mukherjee's Nirbaak is Sushmita Sen's first Bengali film. The film has four stories which has been strung together by Sushmita's character, who remains nameless and is addressed only as 'The Girl' or 'The Woman.' Nirbaak also stars Anjan Dutta and Jisshu Sengupta.

Meanwhile, Tamil superstar Rajinikanth's younger daughter Aishwaryaa R Dhanush is all set for the release of her second film Vai Raja Vai, which features Gautham Kartik and Priya Anand in lead roles. Aishwaryaa's husband Dhanush has a cameo in the romantic tthriller. Aishwaryaa has said that Vai Raja Vai is quite unlike her debut film 3, which was a psychological thriller.

Other films up for release are Chandrettan Evideya, Chirakodinja Kinavukal, Ganga: Muni 3, Sabki Bajegi Band, While We're Young and The Blood Street.
