  • 'She has fallen flat on her face and how,' the tweet added
New Delhi: Actor Shekhar Suman is 'horrified' that Twitter has connected one too many dots and concluded (prematurely, he insists) that Kangana Ranaut is the actress he was referring to as 'cocained' in a tweet dated Monday. He 'meant someone totally different,' Mr Suman tweeted from an unverified account. The 29-year-old actress stars in Vishal Bhardwaj's new film Rangoon, which opened last Friday and had an underwhelming weekend at the box office. The film's low box office performance is no reflection on the five-star reviews that Ms Ranaut has received for her performance as a 1940s actress. A cryptic tweet from Mr Suman read: "One cocained actress was carrying the burden of her non existent stardom. She has fallen flat on her face and how. Guess this is poetic justice." Twitter instantly assumed the criticism was intended for Kangana Ranaut, who is not on social media.

Trolled for his tweet, Mr Suman posted first an indignant tweet that appeared to refer to Ms Ranaut as a 'lumpen so-called star,' lamenting the 'paid lackeys' who had jumped to the actress' defence. He then posted a clarification that he had meant someone else - who, he did not say.

Shekhar Suman's original tweet, below, was inundated with responses asking where he keeps his National Award, calling him a 'nobody,' and accusing him of being 'desperate for publicity.' Kangana Ranaut, winner of three National Awards for the films Fashion, Queen and Tanu Weds Manu Returns, used to date Mr Suman's son Adhyayan some years ago. Many commenters on the thread are seeing Mr Suman's tweet as a case of sour grapes - Adhyayan Suman, with whom Ms Ranaut co-starred in the 2009 film Raaz: The Mystery Continues, has a handful of unsuccessful films to his name.

Shekhar Suman, 54, is best known for appearing in the period film Utsav and for his work on TV shows like Dekh Bhai Dekh and Movers And Shakers.

Rangoon, a war drama set in World War II-era Burma, also stars actors Shahid Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan as soldier Nawab Malik and film producer Rusi Billimoria.
