Highlights

  • Delhi girl Vaani Kapoor says she was a bundle of nerves while shooting her debut film Shuddh Desi Romance opposite Parineeti Chopra and Sushant Singh Rajput as she had no prior acting experience.
  • Kapoor, who was picked through an audition to play the third angle in the Jaipur-set love story by Yash Raj Films, says she felt a sense of responsibility to perform as well as the other big names that the banner has launched.
  • "When I got selected for the movie, it seemed more of a challenge and responsibility than fun. But, now that the film has done well at the box office, I am enjoying the process more. I was scared about disappointing my director Maneesh Sharma and Adi (Aditya Chopra)," Vaani said.
  • The 21-year-old model-turned-actress has signed a three movie contract with the banner and is currently filming the Tamil/Telugu remake of Band Baaja Baraat. The film marks banner's debut in South.
  • "My role is on the lines of Anushka Sharma. It is a December release and I am almost on the verge of wrapping the filming. The story is same but the cultural references are different. We have taken the essence of the original movie and made it for an entirely new audience," she said.
  • Vaani says acting did not seem like a practical choice while she was growing up as she had no film background.
  • "I always had a thought about acting but it never seemed practical to take it as an option because I do not have acting or theatre background. I am not from Bombay and shifting my base there from Delhi where I don't know anybody in the city and in the industry seemed quite impractical," she said.
  • Vaani did not find it difficult to connect with her co-stars on the film and they had a great time while shooting. "Parineeti is a very confident person. Both Sushant and Parineeti are very good actors. We all were from the same age group so we could connect well together. They did not have any air about themselves or any baggage so it was fun."
  • Vaani, however, found it difficult to identify with her role in the movie.
  • "I am not like Tara. I would not do what she did in the end. I kept arguing with Maneesh because she is too forgiving for me. She seemed a bit unreal to me," she said.
  • The success of the film has opened new doors for Vaani, who now wants to explore challenging roles.
  • "I want to work in all sorts of movies, I am very greedy. I hope I get to stay here because I really like acting. It has given me some hope in life. I am a bad planner, I cannot really plan my future so I am keeping my expectations very grounded. But I hope I get to stick around here," she said.
  • Vaani has a long wish-list of the directors that she wants to work with.
  • "I do not want to restrict myself, but if I have to name a few, I would love to work with Rajkumar Hirani as a director and Anurag Kashyap."
