Mumbai: Actress Radhika Apte's note to her younger self went viral last week and, speaking to NDTV on Monday, she said that she felt encouraged by the responses of young women.

"It was so heartening that so many girls came up to me and said they feel better about their appearances after watching the video," she said. "What does Brie Larson say - the most beautiful thing about me is my brain," Ms Apte said, quoting this year's Best Actress Oscar winner.

Last week, 30-year-old Radhika Apte starred in the video Find Your Beautiful, made as part of a series titled Unblushed. In it, she dispensed advice about body image and beauty to her younger self after stumbling on a childhood photo.

What did she tell chhoti Radhika? Two words - "you're beautiful" - and to live by her own rules, not those set by society. "Apni zindagi ke chhote bade hisse kiraye pe mat dena," she said in the video. It went viral and currently has almost 5.5 lakh views on YouTube.

Radhika Apte is fresh off her big win at the Tribeca festival, where she won a Best Actress prize for her performance in the anthology film Madly. The success is now sinking in but Radhika claimed that her triumph came as a big surprise: "The success of the video didn't surprise me. Tribeca was what surprised me."

"I never thought I'd win since my role was part of a larger collection of films. I had travelled from New York to Manali and was really jet-lagged. When I woke up, I saw all these messages congratulating me," Ms Apte said.

Radhika Apte certainly seems to be in a phase where all that she touches turns to gold. Seen in 2015 films like Hunterrr, Badlapur and Manjhi - The Mountain Man, she has Parched and Phobia coming up this year. Ms Apte is currently filming Kabali opposite Rajinikanth.
