Mumbai: After days of speculation and rumours, actor Shahid Kapoor on Saturday confirmed that he is going to become a father soon.

When Shahid was asked whether he was ready for fatherhood, at the trailer launch of his new film Udta Punjab, Shahid said: "Yes, I'm going to become a father."

The grapevine was rife that Shahid's wife Mira Rajput was pregnant ever since she was spotted with a baby bump at a fashion event.

Shahid and Mira married in an intimate ceremony in New Delhi on July 7, 2015.

Shahid plays a drug-addict in Abhishek Chaubey's Udta Punjab, which revolves around drug trafficking in the state.

"It's an issue that needs to be addressed that lies for this entire generation, for the parents and the children. It's a real issue. I think it was very courageous on Abhishek's part to dedicate almost three years of his life on something he felt needed to be spoken about," Shahid said.

Udta Punjab, which also stars Kareena Kapoor Khan and Alia Bhatt, will release on June 17. (Also Read: Shahid's Wife Mira Rajput is Pregnant, Says a Friend of the Couple)
