Hollywood movies aren't the only sources of inspiration for Bollywood, often we go straight to the source - the novel. Reports claim that actor Anil Kapoor is adapting Jane Austen's Emma for Bollywood and none other than his daughter Sonam will play the title character Ayesha as she will be known. Here's a look at some other novel adaptations in Bollywood.

Upcoming film 3 Idiots, starring Aamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Madhavan and Sharman Joshi is reportedly based on Chetan Bhagat's best-seller Five Point Someone.

The Priyanka-Hurman starrer What's Your Rashee, which is all set to hit the screens later this year is an adaptation of a novel by Madhu Rye called Kimball Ravenswood.

Bimal Mitra's Sahib Biwi Aiur Ghulam is ready for its second round in Bollywood and this time Priyanka Chopra will essay the role of Chhoti Bahu. The novel was first adapted in 1962 by Guru Dutt and Abrar Alvi in the film where Meena Kumari played the central role.

Slumdog Millionaire may not be a Bollywood movie as such, but given the number of Indian actors in the film, we will call it part-Indian anyway. This Oscar-winner was based on the book Q&A written by Indian diplomat Vikas Swarup.

Another novel that has stood the test of time is Mirza Hadi Ruswa's Umrao Jaan Ada. The novel was first made into a film in 1981, and it starred the beautiful Rekha as the title character. The movie was remade in 2006 with Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan. This new version by J.P Dutta was, however, hardly an adaptation of Ruswa's novel as it made up a story of its own, with characters borrowed from the book.

Vidya Balan's debut film, Parineeta, in which she acted opposite Saif Ali Khan, was based on Saratchandra Chattopadhyay's novel of the same name.

Saratchandra is an eternal seller in Bollywood, as his novel Devdas has seen as many as four mainstream adaptations so far.

Ash has a major novel connection as she manages to bag roles in many films based on novels. She played the protagonist in Rituparno Ghosh's Chokher Bali which is based on Rabindranath Tagore's famous novel.

Jane Austen may have been an 18th century Victorian woman, but she still manages to move audiences in India and the world. Her celebrated novel Pride and Prejudice was adapted by Gurinder Chadda as Bride and Prejudice starring Aishwarya Rai as Elizabeth Bennett.

Another film which is not really a Bollywood venture, but has a deep Indian connection thanks to the actors and the Indian-born director Mira Nair is The Namesake which is based on Jhumpa Lahiri's novel of the same name.

The multi-starrer film Hello that bombed at the Box Office was based on Chetan Bhagat's One Night at a Call Centre.

Urmila Matondkar and Manoj Bajpai played the central characters in Pinjar which was based on Amrita Pritam's novel of the same name.

Going further back into the history of Bollywood, the Dev Anand-Whaeeda Rehman starrer Guide was based on the novel written by R.K Narayan.

Satyajit Ray's Shatranj Ke Khiladi starring Sanjeev Kapoor, Saeed Jaffrey and Shabana Azmi was based on Munshi Premchand's novel of the same name.

Satyajit Ray's magnum opus, Pather Panchali was based on the novel by Bibhutibhushan Bandopadhyay.
