Veteran Hollywood actor Al Pacino has been honoured for his career achievements at a star-studded ceremony.

The 71-year-old star received the Lee Strasberg Artistic Achievement Award from The Actors Fund, which benefits members of the performing arts community.

Pacino was handed the honour during a glitzy ceremony at the New York Marriott Marquis hotel in Manhattan and admitted he was delighted to receive the prize.

"I'm honoured to receive the Lee Strasberg Artistic Achievement Award from The Actors Fund. From my decades of work in theatre and film, I know firsthand the importance of our community giving back to support those in need.

"Actors, musicians, directors, crew members and so many others - they are all a part of our community. And when they need a helping hand, we know The Actors Fund will be there," the Godfather star said.

Cheers and Frasier star Bebe Neuwirth was also feted at the event, receiving The Actors Fund Medal of Honor, while a number of famous faces co-chaired the ceremony, including Alec Baldwin and Annette Bening.
