Avengers: Age of Ultron Gets Superhero Welcome, Makes Over 35 Cr

Hollywood is avenging Bollywood's so-far dismal 2015 at the box office. Avengers: Age of Ultron, Marvel's second offering in the superhero ensemble film, has had a suitably outsized weekend in India.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted:
 

The re-assembling of Earth's Mightiest Heroes also outperformed their original showing:
 

Avengers: Age of Ultron released in select countries last Friday, an entire week before it opens in USA on May 1.

It appears that nobody wants to watch Hindi films anymore, with even the critically-praised Detective Byomkesh Bakshy! totaling up its collections at a little under Rs 30 crores after three weeks in cinemas. Meanwhile, South Indian films OK Kanmani and Son of Satyamurthy are doing well both at home and abroad.

Bollywood, which hasn't had a big hit since January, will now be pinning its hopes and dipping fortunes on the upcoming Piku, Tanu Weds Manu Returns, Bombay Velvet and Dil Dhadakne Do.
