Los Angeles: Actor Johnny Depp and Amber Heard's relationship was not working way before the actress filed for divorce, a source told People magazine.

The couple were never compatible and had issues since the time they started seeing each other.

"With Amber, there has been non-stop drama. Johnny and Amber are just not good together. They had lots of problems before they got married and should have never gotten married. Their personalities are just not compatible," the source said.

In the past week, Ms Heard levied domestic violence allegations against the 52-year-old actor in court documents.

After alleging that the star abused her throughout their four-year-long relationship and 15-month-long marriage, she was granted a temporary restraining order against him.

In reply to Ms Heard's restraining order request, Mr Depp's divorce attorney Laura Wasser said that the actress is "attempting to secure a premature financial resolution by alleging abuse" in court documents.

"After the recent drama, people close to Johnny feel a divorce is the best outcome. Johnny and Amber should not be married," the source added.

Mr Depp's former partner Vanessa Paradis and his friends have come to his defence against Ms Heard's allegations. His daughter Lily-Rose Depp called him "the sweetest most loving person" in a recent Instagram post.

Ms Paradis also wrote a letter in his support.
