Los Angeles: The first trailer of documentary Steve Jobs: Man in the Machine has arrived.

Directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Alex Gibney, the documentary highlights the life of the late Apple co-founder.

Combining old footage and new interviews, the movie centres on the Apple founder's private and personal life and how he became a brilliant technology maker.

The trailer opens with Steve Jobs wearing his iconic turtle neck top with a pair of blue jeans in an expo.

"Thank you for coming. We're gonna make some histories together today," he is shown as saying.

Mr Jobs made big changes in the world with his incredible inventions.

"He made the iMac, he made the iPod, he made the iPhone. He's made everything," a child says in the two-minute trailer which also recounts how Steve Jobs and his friend, Steve Wozniak, brainstormed some of their earliest ideas in the garage of his childhood home.

The documentary also exposes his dark side.

"His stuff was beloved, but it wasn't that he was beloved," someone says in a voice over.

Produced by Gibney and Viva Van Loock, the movie is slated for release in limited US theatres on September 4.
