Meryl Streep is planning a book of her unused Oscars speeches

Highlights

  • The 62-year-old actress has been nominated for Academy Awards 16 times in her career, but won just twice – in 1979 for Best Supporting Actress for Kramer Vs Kramer and again in 1982 when she picked up Best Actress for Sophie's Choice – though she admits she is always prepared in case she does take home the honour. She said: "I sit there every year with a speech. I've got 14 speeches I've never given. They're all really good.
  • "One day I'll put them in a book."
  • Despite her multiple nominations, Meryl – who is tipped to be shortlisted for Best Actress next year thanks to her role in The Iron Lady – is still surprised when she receives recognition.
  • The star – who was nominated in 2010 for Best Actress for her portrayal of chef Julia Childs in Julie and Julia – added to Empire magazine: "When I was nominated last year I thought, 'I'm so old and they're still doing this. This is amazing.'
  • "I think the Academy sort of parcels things out; 'You've had enough'. And I get that sense from the aggregate fellowship of my colleagues. You know, 'Sit down!'."
  • Sarah Jessica Parker sets Christmas deadlines.
  • The 'New Year's Eve' actress – who has children James, nine, and two-year-old twins Marion and Tabitha with husband Matthew Broderick – loves the festive season but thinks it is important to be organised so she doesn't become a 'hysterical person'.
  • She said: "I'm a huge fan of Christmas. Though I will say having three children makes Christmas come around very quickly each year, and there is a lot of preparation.
  • "I'm a working mom, so I try to set a date by which everything is done, so by 16 December every present has to be wrapped – and that way I can take it easy rather than turn into this hysterical person."
  • The 46-year-old actress loves the fact her kids still believe in Sana Claus and she liked them to have an 'old fashioned' experience.
  • She added: "I like to think that the children come downstairs and have this really traditional, old-fashioned experience.
  • "And they still believe in Santa Claus, which is really nice."
  • Beyonce Knowles' house is a "no-TV zone" over the festive period. The 'Halo' hitmaker is currently expecting her first child with husband Jay-Z and the couple are both so busy during the year that they prefer to focus on quality family time over Christmas rather than relaxing in front of the TV. Beyonce said: "I will be with family. We are both so busy throughout the year that Christmas is just a time to relax with family and count the many blessings in your life.
  • "Christmas Day is a no-TV zone. We just like to sit and talk together as a family."
  • Although she refused to reveal what she will buy her husband, the singer can't wait to purchase lots of gifts for their unborn baby.
  • She said: "I can’t say, it has to be a surprise! Seriously, though, we both keep seeing super-cute stuff for the baby, so I am sure even our presents for each other will involve the baby in some way!
  • "Also Kelly [Rowland] has been so busy buying gifts for the baby, I think she might forget to buy for me this year! She is always seeing cute gifts for the baby in London."
