  • Actor-director Seth MacFarlane says his stint as the host of the Academy Awards will see a mixture of both traditional and new.
  • The Ted director said that he wants to acknowledge the traditional, yet still allow the ceremony to have some never seen before elements, reported Rolling Stone magazine.
  • "All the ceremonies have had redeeming qualities. It is about finding that balance between doing what I do, but acknowledging that this is the Academy Awards, not the roast of Donald Trump," Seth MacFarlane said.
  • "It's walking that line between old-fashioned showmanship and allowing it to be contemporary with a little bit of bite. Johnny Carson and Billy Crystal are two hosts who walked that line. There's a moment on Family Guy that's just Gene Kelly dancing with Stewie - that's what we have to achieve, a dance between the traditional and the new," he added.
  • Seth MacFarlane also said that he feels that imposing his own successes onto the ceremony would not be a good move.
  • "This is not going to be Family Guy Meets the Oscars. Hosts who come in with a specific brand and try to turn the show into the brand, it never works. You have to adapt yourself to the Oscars, not vice versa," he said.
  • Seth MacFarlane, who will make his Oscars hosting debut at the 85th Academy Awards, was recently quoted as saying that he hopes he can take charge of the awards show "without torpedoing my career and getting drummed out of the business".
