Hollywood star Richard Gere is Prime Minister Narendra Modi's latest celebrity visitor. The Pretty Woman actor called on the PM on January 5. However, the nature of their meeting is as yet undisclosed.
A tweet from the PMO simply read:
Mr Gere, who is also the chairman of Gere Foundation and Global Envoy of International Buddhist Confederation, is a frequent visitor to India. The actor, who shot for his film The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel 2 (opposite Indian actress Lillette Dubey) last year in Udaipur, has time and again professed his love for the country.
Mr Gere has also helped establish the AIDS Care Home in India for women and children. In 1999, he created the Gere Foundation India Trust to support a variety of humanitarian programs here.
In 2007, Mr Gere made headlines when he kissed actress Shilpa Shetty during an awareness rally, which was met by a huge uproar.
