Kolkata is celebrating the latest Jaya Bachchan starrer made by director Jayabrato Chatterjee. And no, it's not in Bengali but in English.
Called Lovesongs: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow, the film takes you back to Kolkata of the 60s and explores the loves and lives of people who remind us so much of ourselves.
Jaya Bachchan delivers a stunning performance as a gracful, aging woman with a past that her daughter can't accept.
Jaya Bachchan said, "This is not a Kolkata centric or Bengali centric film. This is about a man and a woman and a child. About a girl and a boy. It is everybody's story."
Jayabrato Chatterjee, Director "The story of Lovesongs is about people daring to fall in love over three generations."
Shahana Chatterjee, Jayabrato's daughter is making her debut in this movie. "It's a film which people of all generations will be able to relate to in some aspect because it traces three generations in a family," she said.
The music, one of the films biggest strengths, has been put together by Kolkata's own Usha Uthup. "It's all about this crooner, about this girl who was a singer on Park Street. I think that they couldn't have got it more authentic the way I've done it," she said.
The film, which releases across the country this Friday, has already been invited to the Indian festival of Films in New York in November.
